The question, on which the board issued a statement, was on the Gujarat riots. It asked: "The unprecedented scale and spread of anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat in 2002 took place under which government?" The options given were Congress, BJP, Democratic and Republican. The board said that the question in the Class 12 Term 1 Sociology paper was "inappropriate and in violation of CBSE guidelines".
